L'Enfants' Grave

I love this picture, just because I think it's lovely how L'Enfants grave gets to overlook DC.

Blending Two Pictures

I put in a new background to this picture of a dad showing his kids how to fish.

Ordinary into Extraordinary

Finally had a chance to try to do this assignment correctly. So, here we go:

Around Town

The weather today was nice, so I took a walk. Ended up walking a bit further than I had intended, but saw some cool stuff. A few samples:
The fountain in the Sculpture Garden
Apple Blossoms next to the Potomic River
The fish market down by the Water Front
Arlington Cemetary

Photo Essay

Re-do of various pictures from assignment 8 to make them lighter, as requested.

Photo Essay

Most people know about restaurants through their own brief stay visiting one. You come in, you sit down, you joke with your waiter, order your food, pay your bill and then leave. Overall, you may interact with three people at the most, and when you leave two hours later with your full belly and lighter pocket, you get to go home. Little to no thought is given to the people who have to work through an entire shift, possibly even two shifts back to back. The server smiling and laughing with you really just wants to sit down, or maybe they are hungry themselves. Sometimes she is suffering from morning sickness during the dinner shift, and in between taking orders, she is running to the bathroom to try to calm down her stomach. But the really good ones, you can't tell. They convince you that they are there to be your friend, and that this is the only place in the world they want to be, even if the opposite is true. Ultimately, the restaurant floor becomes a stage, and the servers are actors, playing the part of your helpful and upbeat friend. These photos cover an entire weekend, but are compiled together to look like a single day, from morning to evening, to show the progression of the workers throughout the day at one of the top restaurants in DC.

My Favorite Time at Work

I do not enjoy getting up early. I naturally wake up around 6:30 (thank you, too many years of early morning swim practice), but that does not mean I like getting out of bed. That being said, I like going into work at 9. I'm usually one of the first people in, and for that first hour and a half before I have to deal with customers, I'm at peace.

Reject Photos

I didn't really have time to go out during break, so I had to do my photo essay at work. These are some reject shots:

Picture With POP

The color is what is important in this one:

I Need to Get out More

I guess this could have been under the "Unseen" Assignment, because its a side of the service industry that only the workers see, and not the patrons. I mean, where do you think all those hundreds of folded napkins come from? But in reality, this is just a sign that I spend too much time at work.

Flowers

Because I can't get away from taking nature shots:

The Ordinary into the Extraordinary

I love the Cherry Blossom Festival. Yes,the trees are pretty, but its watching the people that gets me. Its like all of a sudden, people rememer they love each other. These two twins though were just the cutest things out there, including the trees:

Random Unseen Things

Ok, so three more things which are unseen: The door which goes to some storage room under my house that I never knew existed until I was 12, the gap between logs in the log pile out back, and the seeds which have yet to grow into flowers. I really like the lighting for the third one, and how in black and white it is contrasted even further.

Things Not To Be Seen

One of the cool things about working downtown is that I get to see neat stuff, like "celebrities" and the people who guard them. So while everybody else was paying attention to the black sedan driving down the street, I looked up and saw the guys with guns.

Hidden

Was walking around the neighborhood, and I saw this pretty tree. Then I looked down, and there it was:

Fun With Light

Took these at the National Cathedral.

Re-do for Assignment 2

Wanted to try some of the pictures from the second assignment again with a greater contrast, to see if I could make them pop a little more.

Assignment 3
